AOL’s well kept secret
So I’ve been on AOL for many years and have been trying to get off of this overrated, expensive company that has the worse browser ever made. Their only redeeming value as far as I’m concerned is not the ability to read all the gossip as soon as you go online but the fact that they are an isp, (internet service provider) and when I was in Hong Kong I could dial a local number and get online but with wireless all around and internet cafes on every corner in almost any part of the world who needs it.
So I made the leap, I decided to call it quits and save the $15 a month that I was paying for what should be free email. I first tried to call AOL and that was a colossal waste of time sitting on the phone and I finally did a google search and found that a few people had posted a fax number for AOL but that did nothing. I eventually went onto AOL and got in touch with a live person on the help chat and in a few minutes I got the fax number after they said they were sad to see me go.
I then faxed the required information which I will write shortly and yesterday got a letter in the mail that said that they were truly sad to see me go but if I must I should know that I was still able to keep my screen name, my address book, my buddy list for chatting and all my mail was secure and available at any time for FREE. So why didn’t I know that I could have had all of this for FREE for the past many years instead of paying them to keep my name out there. In truth I haven’t used my AOL name for years but Tricia had the great nassaugal name and was loathe to give it up, now she doesn’t. So there you are, you can keep all of that and the only thing you lose is the ability to quickly read all the gossip in one place which you can do also on their regular website and you can use any email client, Microsoft’s or Apple’s or others to download your mail to your computer.
So here is what I did:
Fax your request to 1-703-433-7283.
Include the nature of your request and full name, phone number, complete address, last four digits of the payment method used on the account or the answer to your account security question, and handwritten signature.
Thats it friends, simple.
They go online once they get it and go to your web browser and go to AOL and log in to any account you have and something will come up saying that they are dreadfully sorry to lose you but all is not lost and if you agree to continue, no fee, you can keep all of the above and live a happy life, for FREE.
There is no need to ever have to pay for email, even though AOL is trying to get you eventually to pay for each email received if you don’t want to get all the spam in the world. That is another topic and rant for another time.
Free yourself now.
